Naples cases our attorneys have handled:

History of Naples, Florida

Founded in the late 1880s by US Senator John Stuart Williams (D-KY) and Walter N. Haldeman—a publisher of the Louisville Courier-Journal—the City of Naples began as a remote destination accessible only by watercraft. Rave reviews circulated in regional papers that favorably characterized the alluring climate and premier hunting and fishing grounds, setting the stage for a modest tourism industry. In the years that followed, Naples blossomed into a beautiful oasis that rivaled its Italian counterpart.

Much of the city’s anticipated land development did not begin until after the Great Depression and World War II, despite the creation of new rail lines and trails, such as the Tamiami Trail financed by Barron Collier, that linked the city to other major areas.
It was not until 1945 when a hurricane devastated the area that Naples experienced another significant boom. Forrest Walker & Sons dredged out the mangrove swamps, which led to the development of upscale, waterfront residential communities, including Aqualane Shores, Port Royal, and The Moorings.

Growth slowed when the eye of Hurricane Donna passed over the city in 1960, causing massive destruction to major landmarks. (The Naples Pier, built by Haldeman and Williams’ The Naples Company, was among the wreckage.) However, progress resumed, and Collier County became the fastest growing county in the United States.

Today, the City of Naples is one of the wealthiest cities in the country, with the sixth highest per capita income and second highest proportion of millionaires per capita.
