Port St. Lucie History
Many historians believe the Spanish established a colony between present-day Vero Beach and Stuart circa 1567, designating the region “Santa Lucia” after construction on a fortification began on the feast day of Saint Lucia—December 13; however, development of the area remained largely passive until the 1950s, when General Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Mackle Co., purchased 40,000 acres along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.
Residential development ensued, with 250 residential homes constructed in the community. By 1961, Port St. Lucie was incorporated, ushering a population boom that more than tripled between 1980 and 1990. Today, Port St. Lucie’s metamorphosis from a residential community into a vibrant economic center has set the stage for widespread investment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and sustainable growth.

Staying Safe in Port St. Lucie
As with many popular destinations in Florida, residents and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution when dining, shopping, or partaking in the many attractions throughout Port St. Lucie. Not only are slip/trip and falls, car accidents, boating accidents, and premise liability cases all too prevalent in Florida, but negligent security around major tourist destinations can also be an issue.
These debilitating and sometimes fatal accidents can cause sciatica, back pain, concussion, knee pain, shoulder pain, joint pain, and traumatic brain injury, all of which can lead to extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation, as well as long periods of disability or even a permanent inability to engage in gainful employment. The seasoned personal injury attorneys at the Shiner Law Group are standing by in the event that you or a loved one are injured as a result of the carelessness or negligence of another.
