For a referral where you assume joint responsibility, Florida Bar Rule 4-1.5 generally allows a referral fee of up to 25% of the total attorney's fee. If you stay involved as co-counsel, you can share in a larger proportional amount. The fee is documented in a written agreement up front, requires your client's written consent, and is paid promptly when the case resolves.
