Did you know that statistically the most dangerous place for your child is a motor vehicle?
According to the CDC from Ages 5-19 the number one cause of death is a motor vehicle traffic. A child can be injured as a pedestrian or as a passenger. So, it is important to take precautions that ensure the safety of those in and around your motor vehicle.
The first step is to ensure the safety of those in your vehicle. This can be done by acquiring the correct type of safety seating for your child’s particular size and weight. Children under the age of four should always be in a properly installed car seat. Children aged four to eight should always be in a properly installed booster seat. Children (and adults of course) eight and up should always wear a seatbelt. The CDC provides some statistics regarding the use of safety equipment inside vehicles.
Important: Be sure to install the car and booster seats properly. Improper installation can render the safety equipment useless. Follow the instructions in the owner’s manual and if you are unsure of yourself get help from a certified child passenger safety technician. Two final tips for children inside of a vehicle. One do not seat children under 12 in front of an airbag. Two seat children in the middle of the back seat.
